To the Parents and Care Givers of the Burdekin community,
We are a group of concerned parents and supporters who are trying to provide better access services such as Speech and Occupational Therapies, for families who are presently unable to access these services for their children.
For those children who are eligible, the current waiting list to access services can take more than 12 months, while children between the ages of 6 – 18 years are not catered for through Disability Services. Queensland Health and Education Queensland are only able to offer limited services to a small number of Burdekin families.
Because there are currently no private Speech or Occupational Therapists available in the Burdekin, families must travel to Townsville to access these services, which is both financially and emotionally draining.
We are hoping to access block funding through a Queensland Government Communities Grant once we have demonstrated the need for services in this area.
The best way to demonstrate that the demand for these services exists and support a funding application, is to provide evidence of those requiring the services by way of family details, such as names of parents and care givers and their children aged 0 – 18 years. We are seeking the names of children less than 6 years (even though their needs may be met at present) to illustrate the ongoing need for the therapies into the future.
Please contact us if you wish to add your name and that of your child/children to our list. Be assured that any information submitted to us will be treated with the strictest confidence and only used in relation to the proposed block funding application.
“Every Child and every name will assist in our fight to access services for many families.”
